The Latino families of Trinity School, Indianapolis enjoy playing lotería (Mexican bingo).

The Latino families of Trinity Lutheran Church, Indianapolis had a very joyous weekend to usher in a new school year. On Saturday, August 31st, they hosted a fiesta de bienvenida (welcome party) geared towards the Latino students and families of Trinity School. In addition to a devotion on John 10:27–the school’s theme verse for the year–attendees enjoyed tacos, a bounce house, and lotería (Mexican bingo).

Trinity School is working to intentionally reach out to the Latino community in their area. A very generous Anglo member of Trinity has covered tuition for Hispanic children for several years now, and the school has recently hired two bilingual teacher aides in order to be better able to serve immigrant students.

Three recently-immigrated women receive the gift of Holy Baptism.

One such student is Marcos, an 11-year-old who is originally from Cuba. He, his mother, and two other family members recently came to the US after spending time in Bolivia and Mexico. They are relatives of René, a member of Trinity who was baptized as an adult by Rev. Samuel Ruíz (the previous missionary-at-large to the Hispanic community of central Indiana) a few years ago. Marcos is attending Trinity School alongside his cousins, René’s three children, and at René’s insistence, the three adult women were thrilled to be baptized on Sunday, September 1st by Rev. Daniel Fickenscher. Praise the Lord for the work He is doing in these people’s lives!
