During this season of thanks, we, like you, are thankful for the teachers at your school. Their dedication to helping our young people grow both spiritually and academically is helping many come to know the eternal promise of our savior.
We’re also thankful that earlier this year in convention the LCMS recognized a significant challenge many of our teachers face. By passing Resolution 12-03A, the Synod acknowledged teachers’ student debt and how that impacts their wellbeing and ability to deliver ministry.
Resolution 12-03A created an annual special designated offering in support of commissioned teacher student debt reduction, to be first taken during 2024’s National Lutheran Schools Week. That offering will be administered by MinistryFOCUS, an RSO of the LCMS that since 2015 has made grants to called workers of the LCMS to help with burdensome educational debt. We’re thankful to be part of this effort.
As schools in your district plan for January’s National Lutheran Schools Week, we ask that you encourage them to consider designating a portion of that week’s offering to this fund. At MinistryFOCUS we’ve been blessed to help more than 250 called workers with challenging student debt. Now, through this fund, we can multiply that impact and connect donors who have a heart for supporting our Lutheran school educators with those who need help.
Please consider letting your school leaders know about this opportunity. More information about the fund itself will be shared closer to National Lutheran Schools Week. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to me at Ken@MinistryFocus.org with any thoughts or questions.
