Sven Schumacher Awarded The Micah Award

Lutheran Child and Family Services of IN/KY, Inc. Executive Director, Sven Schumacher, was awarded The Micah Award from the Lutheran Services in America on February 3, 2026.

The Micah award recognizes a leader who embodies the call of Micah 6:8 to: “act with justice, mercy, and grace.”  Schumacher has served as executive director of Lutheran Child and Family Services of IN/KY, Inc. for more than 30 years, guiding the agency through significant growth and innovation to better serve children, families, and communities across Indiana.

Under Schumacher’s leadership, LCFS has increased capacity at The Sharing Place food pantry, which now serves more than 20,000 neighbors annually; opened the first permanent supportive housing program for youth ages 18–24 who are at risk of homelessness as they age out of the child welfare system; launched a 2-Gen (two-generation) program that supports both parents and children as they work toward long-term stability and success; and expanded our Lutherwood Residential facility to offer therapeutic residential services to survivors of human trafficking.

Reflecting on the honor, Schumacher said, “I have always seen it as a privilege to help children and families. It’s a wonderful thing to do.”

Schumacher’s leadership and long-standing commitment to service reflect Lutheran Child and Family Services’ mission to walk alongside children and families during times of need, offering hope, dignity, and opportunity for a better future.
