Southern District Flooding Needs & Donations

Published on September 20th, 2016

Southeast Louisiana continues to work toward recovery following the massive flooding that devastated so many communities.  The Southern District has been, and will continue to be, involved in the recovery.  Those congregations who would like to assist in any way have several options:

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA CONGREGATIONS can donate bottled water and individually wrapped snacks to be handed out to volunteers working in the affected areas.  These can be dropped off at the Southern District Office, 100 Mission Drive, Slidell, LA  70460 any time between 8 AM and 5 PM Monday through Thursday.

“FAMILY TO FAMILY” will be available in the near future as families are identified who can be matched to a congregation or family willing to provide support and encouragement to a family in the affected area.  If your congregation or a family or individual would be interested in this, please contact Kathy Wendling at  She will be compiling a list of interested congregations and families with the idea of pairing them when the time is right.

THRIVENT ACTION TEAMS can obtain $250 in seed money by going to Some examples of a project might be “A work crew will go out to help repair damaged homes from the August flood” or  “The seed money will be used to purchase tools, supplies, and protective equipment.” A Thrivent member can apply twice a year for an action team grant.

CONGREGATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS who would like to volunteer or donate money can go to to do both of those things.  100% of the donated money goes to the relief effort. Checks can also be mailed directly to Southern District, 100 Mission Drive, Slidell, LA  70460.
