Practicing God’s Love at Faith, Bloomington

The theme statement that declares what Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington is about reads,
“Proclaiming and Practicing God’s Love… in our congregation, community and beyond”.

One way Faith’s members practice God’s love is by annually supporting multiple community and world-wide missions and ministries. In partnership with the LCMS Foundation, “The Endowment of Faith Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Indiana” was started in 2016.  Thanks to contributions to this endowment by members via estate planning, gifts and memorials, the assets now exceed $600,000.  Interest earned each year is designated to support agencies and ministries in our community and beyond.  It is generally not to be used for needs within our congregation; those are to be covered in our annual budget. All members have an opportunity to nominate recipients; our Parish Planning Council determines the recipients and specific amounts to be distributed to each.

This spring, distribution of $30,000 of interest earned in 2023 was made to 23 recipients in amounts ranging from $400 to $4000.  Examples of recipients past and present, beyond our congregation, include:

1/ Community groups (New Hope for Families shelter; Hannah Center crisis pregnancy center)

2/ LCMS missionaries and both seminaries (Missionary Rev. Micah Wildauer and family, serving in Belize)

3/ LCMS Recognized Service Organizations (Parish Nurse Association; Worship Anew)
