Mission of St. John’s, Rochester: The Helping Hands Store

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rochester, Indiana has the blessing of sharing their fellowship hall with their local mission called, The Helping Hands store. Through this store St. John’s receives donations of furniture, kitchen items, clothing and bedding along with lots of clothes and some food. (Another local church helps with storage.) These items are then passed on to those in need, for free!
Some of the people that are being helped are just starting over after jail time, divorce, drug use or other reasons. The store average 25 to 30 families a month. Helping some just a new outfit for a job interview, while helping others with items for a home or apartment. Over time these same people have returned to help others get on a new lease on life. This is the work of not only of the church, but volunteers from the community. St. John’s and the volunteers are so blessed to see the joy on the faces of those helped and by hearing their up-lifting stories.
No matter how small the donations it can help change lives! The “store” accepts and distributes donated furniture, household items, and clothing to anyone in need in Rochester. Hours are Monday-Thursday 11am-3pm or by appointment. Call the church with any questions about the program at 574-223-6898.
