MEMORIAL DAY OR DECORATION DAY?

Published on May 25th, 2016

memorial dayOn this day we remember those who have given their lives in defense of our nation.  This often involves the decoration of graves – often with a flag.  In many communities there are still parades on this day and in Indy of course there is the big race.  Some see it as the unofficial beginning of summer as family and friends gather around the grill to enjoy some brats, dogs, burgers and a cold drink.   When this multitude of themes gets thrown into our weekend social blender, we can easily lose focus.  The truth is millions of lives have been sacrificed for the American freedoms we enjoy!  While we are first members of the Kingdom of God, we are also patriotic members of the nation!  We pray for our country and its leaders.  This is a very appropriate time to ask God’s blessing for our nation and to remember those who have given so much to protect our freedoms as Americans!  “May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!” Psa 29:11
