Individuals interested in assisting with disaster relief efforts will have the opportunity to earn LERT (Lutheran Early Response Team) certifications for both basic relief efforts and chainsaw handling in early March.
Registrations for these training opportunities are requested by Friday, February 20th!
Basic Training will occur on Friday, March 6th, from 5-8pm. This class will equip participants to serve in most disaster response situations, and is open to anyone age 14 or older. The $35/person fee will cover the cost of training materials, ID card, and t-shirt.
Chainsaw Training will take place on Saturday, March 7th. Participants aged 16 or older may be certified as “Draggers,” (working on chainsaw deployments but not operating chainsaws) while those 18 or older may be certified as Chainsaw Operators. The classroom portion (required for both Draggers and Operators) will take place from 8am-noon, and the hands-on portion (required for Operators) will run from noon-4pm. Registration to become a Dragger is $15, while the cost to become an Operator is $50.
Both chainsaw certifications require prior Basic LERT certification. If you are interested in either chainsaw certification but have not attended a prior Basic Training, you must also register for the class on March 6th.
All classes will be held at K&K Dirtworks (10841 1100 N, Evanston, IN 47531). Lunch on Saturday and snacks on Friday will be provided by Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Tell City Indiana.
