Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) is grateful for opportunities to provide resources and join in partnership with others. With this in mind, LCEF is partnering with the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) Recognized Service Organization (RSO) office to provide a two-part webinar series specifically for RSOs.
Board Governance is an important topic. Our discussion will focus on the size of a board, board member responsibilities, term limits, indemnification, board concerns and much more. The journey to develop, retain and sustain a board for an RSO is critical to continue the mission and vision of your organization. In this two-part series, we will look at best practices for board governance, hear from panelists about their boards – including insights and valuable advice for your organization.

As leaders, we live in an environment of rapid change. Unfortunately, many existing board governance models are not well suited for this “new” normal. Board governance documents that once set a positive direction have now become a hindrance to success. Board culture that once served an organization may no longer be effective. Long-tenured board members may wield inordinate influence, stifling creativity. And, the skill sets, personalities and experiences of leaders and board members that were effective in the past may not be a good fit for today. The question becomes: how does an organization adapt its governance model to be a competitive advantage? During our time together, we will examine how leaders and their boards can create an evolving, adaptive model of governance that addresses the elephants in the room so that, collectively, they can implement a governance model that forges a path to organizational success.
Join our three panelists as they share their expertise and knowledge. Tim Kurth from LCEF will share the work he does with RSO boards to help them become stronger and more sustainable. David Maack, executive director of Compassion Place and Angie Moellering, President and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Indiana will both share their insights after years of working with boards in their respective organizations.
Please feel free to share! We encourage you to invite members of your organization and your board to join. The webinars will be recorded and sent out to all.
The webinar is free of charge and all you have to do is register. Space is limited, so register soon.
