Ladder Safety

Published on August 30th, 2017

It’s “bad luck” to use ladders other than as directed, so make sure you’re familiar with basic ladder safety practices. With summer nearing an end, get the job done in a safe manner when using a ladder. Consider the following:

  • Always have 3 points of contact and never stand on the top 3 rungs of the ladder
  • Position the base of the ladder on stable ground 1 foot away from the building for every 4 feet it reaches up
  • Keep hands free while climbing; use a tool belt or rope to hoist tools
  • Don’t overreach; if your belt buckle reaches past the side rails, you’ve gone too far

Take time to protect yourself when climbing ladders. For more information, visit Church Mutual’s Ladder Inspection Checklist or contact RiskConsulting@churchmutual.com.
