The Indiana District is blessed to have a group of women who plan an annual “Katie Retreat” for pastors’ wives and widows. Named in honor of Martin Luther’s loving wife, Katie, this retreat is designed to bring together women who share in the vocation of being a pastor’s wife, share stories, support one another, pray and laugh together, and be built up to serve.
What about the “Katies” in your life / congregation? Sometimes it is hard for these women to take advantage of this kind of time away, or to voice their need for this type of support. How can you encourage your “Katie” to spend this special time in retreat? Can you help make arrangements for childcare, if that is a concern? Hand her the flyer with your verbal encouragement? Assist with the financial portion, even if just a small contribution? And even if not for this retreat, how can you be praying for and loving on the “Katies” in your life / congregation? They serve a special role that can too often be overlooked, underappreciated, or misunderstood.
The 2026 Indiana District Katie Retreat is planned for January 30-February 1 at the Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House in Indianapolis, IN. This year’s event welcomes keynote speaker Darcy Paape and presentations by Paula Isakson (Faith Family Reunion). The theme is “Someone to Walk With.” There will also be crafting opportunities to support Worship Anew and a chance for attendees to join in preliminary planning for the 2027 Katie Retreat. Commuter and single-day registration options are available.
