Independence Day!

Published on June 28th, 2017

Next Wednesday is July 5th, so I thought I would remind you of July 4th today!  We all know all about it of course and we may still have our flags out from Memorial Day and Flag Day.  But just in case, I hope you find this a time to talk with your kids and grandkids about freedom.  There will be fireworks, parades and cookouts which we will all enjoy.  All of  these and much more are ours because we do live in the “land of the free and the home of the brave”.

Some will misuse and abuse those freedoms this year just like very year.  Some will mistake freedom for license to do whatever they want.

Historically it was the day of the signing the Declaration of Independence.  We teach the children about the unique freedom our forefathers sought and how it was declared on this day.  In an even greater way, we teach them about the freedom we share in Jesus Christ! John 8,”So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”  So, we have TWO freedoms to discuss next week!
