Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. Psalm 48:2-3
One has to marvel at the powerful new life we see this time of the year. Blooms, blossoms, growth, life and color! The creation is always full of oohs and ahas, but in May and June you see the absolute power of new life springing forth. The Psalmists always noticed it and marveled at the creation. Of course, they spent most of their life outside. Basically, they lived and worked outside.
Western life today is quite different. Children and adults tend to spend a lot of time inside. We may see a lot that is going on on TV while at the same time missing much of what is going on outside. A walk around the golf course is a good thing – even if you have a high score. A jog through the neighborhood rather than at the gym gives you a glimpse of what God is doing in your yard and the yards of your neighbors. A camping trip gives you an even more personal interaction with nature.
When you are outside recite the first article of the Apostle’s Creed. Breathe in the freshness of the new creation (some might need to take an allergy pill first) and thank God for His continuing creation all around you! It is a great time to plan a picnic or other outside event. It is wonderful to see children and adults run free in the midst of God’s powerful creating. It really is a good time to “smell the roses”.
It is still the Easter season and the new life springing forth can be a reminder of the new life that is ours in the resurrection! Take a look – it is all playing out just outside the door!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2Co 5:17
