Can you imagine how challenged Abraham must have been when he was directed by God to sacrifice his son Isaac? What a test of faith that was! Abraham believed that God would provide. Abraham exhibits that faith in God by the way that he answers his son Isaac. Isaac said to his dad, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” (ESV). Abraham answered his son by saying, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.’ (ESV). Indeed, God did provide a ram and Isaac was not sacrificed.
God still provides. Challenges come our way. We don’t know how we will get through them, but God provides for us. St. Paul reminds us that God provides for Christians when he writes, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 ESV)
What an astounding promise St. Paul lays before us. All things work together for your good, dear Christian. You can’t make that happen, but God can and does!
The greatest good that God has worked for you is that He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ to pay the price of all your sins once and for all with his perfect life lived under the Law of God and with His atoning death on the Cross of Calvary. Jesus has earned for you forgiveness of all your sins and life eternal! God surely does provide for you.
