Dr. Kevin Brockberg has accepted the call by the Board of Directors of the Indiana District to the position of Executive Counselor for Christian Education. The role includes the designation by the Indiana State Department of Education as the Superintendent of the Lutheran Schools of Indiana.
Dr. Brockberg succeeds Dr. Jon Mielke, who has announced his retirement effective December 31 this year. Mielke has held the position since 2006.
Brockberg spent his childhood in the community of River Forest, IL, where his father was a professor at Concordia Teacher College, now Concordia University-Chicago (CU-C). He attended Grace Lutheran School, Walther Lutheran High School and earned both his BA and MA from CU-C.
In the mid-1980s, Brockberg was teacher and principal at Zion Lutheran School, New Palestine, IN. Other locations in his career have been in Pennsauken, NJ; Milwaukee; Chaska, MN; Hong Kong; Birmingham, MI; inner city Detroit; Shenzhen, China and Orlando. He earned the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Administrative Leadership from Oakland University in Rochester MI in 2008.
Brockberg is married to Susan (Brink). They have four adult children living in Fort Wayne, Detroit, Boston, and Gothenberg, Sweden.
The installation of Dr. Brockberg into this position will take place on Monday, October 29 during the Teachers Conference. Indiana District educators attending the INPEC Conference in Indianapolis will gather that afternoon for worship and fellowship from 4:30-6:00 at the Indianapolis Convention Center, the installation will take place during the worship service. Everyone is invited for this event. Registration for the conference is not required to participate in the worship.
During the months of November and December, Drs. Brockberg and Mielke will work together to facilitate a smooth transition.
