April is a big time for fake news

Did you get your share of April Fool’s Day jokes?  April Fool’s Day is a time for funny fake news.  People expect it and enjoy laughing when they hear it.

Fake news at other times is anything but funny!  It is often a lie told for deceptive and destructive purposes.  It also makes people leary about what to believe and what not to believe.

There was a great turn out for that first Palm Sunday!  Big news was coming to Jerusalem!  Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me.  If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them’, and he will send them at once.”  This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,  “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.'” The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.   They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.   And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”  And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”

Our Lord’s entrance makes another step on the road to salvation!  For others it was hoped to have a more secular meaning.  Earthly reign and earthly power!  For others it raised more questions than answers.  Who is this?  Why is he here? What does it mean?  Is it real or is it fake?  What really did happen with Lazarus in Bethany?  Real or fake?

As we gather in worship this Sunday we know and trust the reality of what is going on as the King of Kings rides into town on a donkey.  This is the beginning of the most crucial week in human history!  This is the REAL Savior coming to make a REAL sacrifice that changes our destiny!

Some who gather with us this Sunday are inwardly asking about all of this.  Real or Fake!  Who is this?  Why is He here?  What does it REALLY mean to and for me? What a great Sunday to share the good and holy news of the Gospel in a clear and profound way!
