Are you feeling “saintly” today? Yesterday we were reminded that a saint is someone counted as righteous because of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! We are as forgiven as St. Peter or St. Paul or St. John etc! We could have a church named after us! We are saints in the best possible sense!
And yet we are also sinners as were Peter, Paul and John. Simil justus et peccator! When we confess our sins we are deeply aware of our failings and unrighteousness. I is quite clear that we come far short of the glory of God in our thoughts, words and deeds. And when we fail to see or remember our sinfulness there is usually someone to point it out.
Why is it harder to remember that we are saints in God’s eyes – completely forgiven? All Saints day is a great time to remember that God’s grace is real and effective! You are a SAINT and so are the believers around you! Go ahead and refer to them as St. Alice or St. Bob! It will provide an opportunity for you to explain what it all means!
